VISIT BY SOUTHERN CROSS SIB CHARLES KINGSFORD SMITH From Our Own Correspondent. Residents of Takapau and district assembled at Mr W. G. Morton's paddock on the Waipukurau road to welcome Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, who after spending the forenoon with the Southern Cross at Waipukurau, arrived at Takapau at 2 p.m. After landing the Southern Cross and the Waco were speedily in commission doing 15 to 20 minutes’ flights with passengers, over 100 of whom took advantage of the unique opportunity of journeying in the “old bus.” Later in the afternoon, Mr W. Cuthbertson, on behalf of the residents of the district, cordially welcomed Sir Charles and 1 ady Kingsford-Smith and the crew of the Southern Cross and hoped that on the return of Sir Charles to New Zealand they would again have the opportunity of greeting him on the same ground. Sir Charles, in responding, thanked those present for the very cordial welcome accorded to Lady KingsfordSmith and himself and said that he had not used a better landing ground in New Zealand. The kindness of Mr W. G. Morton in putting the ground at the disposal of the aviators was suitably acknowledged. I FOOTBALL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting oi the Takapau Football Club was held on Monday evening, the president, Mr 11. A. Fraser, presiding over an attendance of over 50 members and supporters. Mr J. A. Grant, interim hou. secretary, read the report and balance sheet for the year, both being of a ' highly satisfactory nature and the lat--1 ter showing disbursements JU 17. credit balance £25, and receipts £72. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The president moved a vote of thanks to Mr A. McCormick for acting as sub-union representative of the club. Votes of thanks wero also tendered to Messrs Quinn and Casson, who had been active in the club’s interest during the past season. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the management committee and was carried by acclamation, the president responding. Officers were elected as under;—Pat-1

It was decided to open the season on Saturday, April 7, and to hold a football dance on Wednesday, April IL The following sub-committee was set up to make the necessary arrangements:—The hon. secretary, the treatnrer, Messrs D. Vesty, 0. McLeod. A. Tremewan, H. Drake and A. G- Parker. Mr A. McCormick gave a detailed account of the sub-union’s transactions with remits. It was decided that the delegate be left with a free hand to exercise his vote at meetings of the sub-union. A vote of thanks to Mr R. A. Fraser for presiding terminated the meeting.
