CHECK TO WOOL

AFTER JANUARY SALE

Likely to be Advantageous

KEEP CONSUMPTION MOVING (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 24, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 24 The “Sydney Morning Herald’s” woo] letter says: ‘ ‘The excited last-minute rush for wool which was expected towards the close of the auctions has not developed. All good to best classed Merino clips made firm rates at this week's Sydney sales. Skirtings sold freely at late values, but the trend of prices for fleece lines of irregular quality and skirty lots was easier. “The advance of 15 to 20 per cent, m wool value# during early January was a surprising development. Some consumers apparently allowed their eagerness for supplies of raw material to exceed the ability of their customers to pay advanced figures for their products. A check to business resulted from the decidedly higher prices, and the manufacturers' strong desire to secure sheep’s staple was curbed. “For the general welfare of the industry the reduction probably will prove advantageous and should assist to keep consumption moving and clear the way for the clip growing on the sheep's back.”
