Good Amateur Stage Career
MISS “BIDDY” PHILCOX

A talented Auckland girl, Miss Vivienne (Biddy) Philcox, who had a notable career on the Auckland amateur stage, and was continuing the study of dramatic art in England, died in London on Thursday at the age of about 25, private cabled advice to this effect being received in Auckland to-day. She was the daughter of the latte Mr H. B. Philcox, Takutai street, Parnell, and Mrs Philcox, who is at present inLondon.
Born in Auckland, she was educated at Woodford House, Hawke’s Bay. On her return to Auckland she took a keen Interest in. the amateur stage. Miss Philcox achieved her greatest acting triumph m the title role of the Little Theatre Society’s produotiou, “Peter Pan,” in December, 1930.
At the beginning of 1931 Miss Phileox went to London, where sb® bad since studied acting, singing and dancing. She showed considerable talent, and is understood to have obtained an engagement to appear in a C. B. Coehran production. About six months ago Miss Philcox was injured in a motor accident, but made a good recovery. The cablegram did not contain any details as to the cause of her death. It is believed, however, that she suffered a nervous breakdown recently.
