SCHOOL PICNIC

Hastings West Outing

SPORTS HELD AT TOMOANA A very successful picnic of the Hastings West School was held yesterday at the Show Grounds, Tomoana. Fully 400 children, in addition to parents, were conveyed to the grounds in ’buses and by private cars, and about 30 pupils rode their cycles. By the excellent organisation of the headmaster, the school staff and the committee, a. big programme of sports was carried out without a hitch, and young and old spent an enjoyable day under ideal conditions.

Hot w'ater, tea, milk and sugar were provided, and in addition to baskets brought by parents every child was treated to fruit, sandwiches, cakes, a bag of sweets, and soft drinks. During the afternoon the chairman of the Education Board (Mr G. A. Maddison), Mrs Maddisou and others joined the picnickers, and the children were assembled with the staff, committee, and others when a photographic group was taken. The sehocl teachers and committee, ably assisted by the ladies’ committee, were indefatigable in their efforts to promote the enjoyment of the children, whoso deportment was in every way a credit to the school.
