WATER PROBLEM Help for Rural Districts GOVERNMENT GRANTS (British Official Wireless,) (Received 23, 12.55 p.m.) RUGBY, Feb. 28. Reference to the long-continued drought, which is causing considerable inconvenience in some country districts, was made by the Minister of Health, the Kt. Hon. Sir E. HiltonYoung, in the House of Commons on a money motion in connection with the Rural Water Supplies Bill. This measure authorises contributions of about £1,000,000 to local authorities in improving water supplies.

The Minister said that up to the present no exceptional difficulty had been experienced in maintaining the supplies of towns, and if the drought continued, a programme for increasing these was ready to be put into operation. In rural areas they were trying to relate emergency measures to more permanDr. Fong Foo Sec, M.A., Ph.Dd., great for the rural population to bear alone. State grants would bridge the gulf left after the local authorities made contributions.
