House and Contents Burned

A five-roomed house in James street, owned by the Rev. W. Smalltield, of Hamilton, and occupied by S. Miller, was destroyed by tire last night. The

occupants were away for the evening and when discovered, the fire had a complete hold, giving the brigade no hope of saving either the building or the contents. The building wa s insured for £7OO and the furniture for £2OO.
