Cases Heard To-day ! Tho following cases were dealt with 1 by Mr E. L. Walton. S.M., at tho Hastings Magistrate’s Court this morning:— Frank Janies Haycock was charged with stealing a postal note to the value of £l, the property of Margaret Smith, of Paki Paki, on or about September 23 last. Accused did not appear when his name was called, and His Worship ordered that a warrant lor his arrest be executed. The case was adjourned m tho meantime till this afternoon. As a sequel to a lather sensational collision some weeks ago, Charles Griffiths, of Hastings, was charged with attempting to cross the railway lino at Alaharahara at a time when it was not clear. Senior-Sergeant O’Neill stated that tho morning express crashed into tho rear of tho car, and damage to tho extent of £3 It)/- was Buffered by tho locomotive. There was a compulsorystop sign at the crossing. Air Cecil Duff, on defendant’s behalf, pleaded guilty, and said that the defendant was a very careful and cautious driver. The cause of tho accident probably was the slow speed at which he was driving. Defendant was ordered to pay 10/Court costs and the amount of tho damage to tho locomotive. Teng ( Hu, for riding a bicycle without a light and without a reflector, was fined 1.0/- with 10/- costs. George Uraikc gave evidence that ho was driving on the Napier road, and hnd to run off tho side of tho road to avoid hitting the bicycle. On the information of tho borough traffic inspector, Mr A. C. Crawford, the following charges were made: — John E. Fleming was charged with driving a motor-van with inefficient brakes, and was fined £1 with 10/costs. i Penalties as mentioned were imposed I upon tho following defendants for j cycling on footpaths: S.
