A boy aged eight years, named James Wakely, had a narrow escape from drowning on Tuesday evening. He was bathing on the Marine Parade bench, Napier, at about 6 o’clock, when he got out of his depth and was unable to regain the beach. Fortunately his plight was noticed by a man in ihe vicinity, who went to his rescue and brought the child back to shore. The boy was in a distressed condition, but after receiving artificial respiration and medical attention, he recovered. The boy is a son of Mr A. E. Wakely, of Napier. The name of his rescuer is not known, but he is believed to be a visitor staying in Napier.
