REP. CRICKET

WELLINGTON TOURING TEAM SOUTH CANTERBURY MATCH HOME SIDE’S DULL INNINGS By Telegraph—Press Association. TIMARU, Feb. 21. A representative cricket match between South Canterbury and Wellington was commenced tins afternoon in line wvutlier. A strong wind blew right down the wicket and it was impossible to play with the bails on. The home side won the toss and elected to bat. The wicket was good, but they gave a dour display, taking two hours and a-halt to compile 121 runs. This, to some extent, is a tribute to the bowling ot the visitors, but with the display of a little enterprise on the part of the local batsmen the score would have been much lai ger. Blundell kept u line length throughout Ins 15 overs, mostly into the wind, and Griffiths, .. slow bowler, had ail the batsmen scratching 11. Hatch, who is playing ln s lust game ot thu tour and who was brought on late, took tbiee wickets lor one run. The first 20 runs took 20 minutes and the halt century occupied an hour exactly. The next 10 runs were scored in a few minutes, but the bowlers again secured command and the century was hoisted alter two bums’ play. Hie last 21 runs took 35 minutes, which gives an idea of the dour display. Apart from A. Souter, a High School liny who made 31, none of the batsmen was ever comfortable. I’he visitors (lid not start too well, having three wickets down lot 33 at stumps McDougall was in fine form, sending down 11 overs, three ol which were maidens, and taking three wickets for 12 runs. Scoring by Wellington was also slow the total taking 5' minutes to compile. Scores:
