BEER BOTTLES THROWN
Sequel to Wellington Affray ASSAULT ON TWO CONSTABLES. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 12. The recent affray in which baton* and beer bottles were used aa weapons in Tinakori road had its sequel in the Magistrate’s Court this morning when Donald John McKenzie, aged 43, a bush mar, was fined £3 for assaulting Constable G. G. Cleverley. A week’a remand was granted in the case of another member of the fray, Nelaon McKnight, aged 30, a plumber, who ia charged with drunkenness and assaulting and resisting Constable A. T. Cleverley. McKnight ia still in hospital. Constable A. T. Cleverley gave evidence that he and hia son, Constable G. G. Cleverley, the latter in cricketing clothes, went to an office in Tinakori road where there were a number of men, including McKenzie and MeKnight. Witness was Investigating a disturbance which occurred earlier in the evening outside a hotel. Both constables described the affray. McKenzie denied throwing the bottle, but the Magistrate said he was satisfied from the police evidence that McKenzie had thrown the bottle, which had not made a direct hit but splintered, injuring the face of Cleverley junior.
