BURIAL AT SEA

Gisborne Man’s Desire Fulfilled By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, Feb. 12. The unusual incident of a burial at sea took place in Poverty Bay this afternoon. Mr William Douglas Bruce, one of tho best-known residents of the town, died on Saturday, and by his expressed desire his remains were to be buried at sea. Deceased was a nleinber Of the Church of Christ, Scientist, and after the funeral service had been conducted by a lady member of the church at deceased’s late residence, the remains were removed to a launch which proceeded to some three miles off shore. The engines were then stopped and Tennyson’s “Crossing the Bar” was recited, and the shell was consigned to the deep.
