SIR ROBERT HORNE

FIFTEEN DIRECTORATES. Sir Robert Horne, who succeeds the late Viscount Churchill as chairman of the Great Western Railway Company, will receive a salary in that capacity of £7OOO a year. Sir Robert already holds 15 directorships, and is chairman of four other companies. His income from directorships is estimated at from £12,000 to £15,000 a year. The British Railway Stockholders’ Union, while admitting Sir Robert Horne’s ability, says that “sooner or later shareholders in all industries will be compelled to ask whether great industrial corporations in Britain can be adequately controlled by men who, like accomplished jugglers upon a different stage, keep a multitude of spheres simultaneously revolving about their heads. There is a limit to human eapn city, and it should be observed.’’ Sir Robert Horne was Chancellor <■; the Exchequer in 1921-22, and has been a member of Parliament for the Hili head division of Glasgow since 1918. He is 63 years of age. A few years ago he paid a visit to New Zealand.
