Garvin, writing in the “Observer,” says: “The present French Parliament will never regain the country’s respect and confidence. M. Doumergue’s mixed Ministry is incapable of united electoral action; therefore, M. Doumergue’B best course would be to copy President Roosevelt and demand emergency powers to suspend tile Chamber in the interests of the peace, stability and future strength of France.”
Sir Stafford Cripps, speaking at Stratford, said he believed next week would see the eud of social democracy in France, leaving Britain the only large social democracy ia the world, and if British Labour fails social democracy will disappear.
