FEAT IN READING
NEW TESTAMENT IN ONE DAY. The whole of the New Testament was read aloud at the Salvation Army Hall at Tighe’s Hill, Newcastle, New South Wales, recently. The reading began at 4 a.m., and it was late at night before it was completed. Many readers participated, each taking a turn of approximately a quarter of an hour. Middle-aged and elderly people predominated among the readers. The rate of reading varied considerably. The Gospel according to St. Matthew was read in 2} hours, the Gospel according to St. Mark in 11 hours, and tho Gospel according to St. Luke in 2J hours. Only Adjutant Smythe and another man we.o in the hall when the reading began, hut at 5 a.m. a congregation began to assemble. Its size varied considerably throughout the day. The reading ended at 10.45 p.m. It had occupied 18> hours, and 62 readers had participated.
