♦ O i— Police and Escaped Convicts THREE LEADERS KILLED CHIICAGO, December 22. In a desperate gun battle to-night the police killed three of the leaders of a gang of escaped Indiana convicts responsible for many recent crimes here, including the murdering of a policeman. After locating the criminals’ hideout Detective-Captain John Stage surrounded an apartment building with 20 heavily-armed men. At a signal they crashed into the building, and were met by a hurst of shotgun fire. The light was immediately extinguished, and for over a minute the police continued firing blindly.
