HASTINGS WEST

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS. The monthly meeting, held on Thursday evening, was attended by Messrs. S. J. McKee (chairman), V. K. Colello, E. A Brooker, J. Wilson, V. L. Westerman, G. B. Britten, J. Trumper, W. Matthews, W. 11. Clark and W. J. Driller (headmaster). The amount of £1 10/6 was handed over by the headmaster, being amounts received for stationery, baths and produce. The baths caretaker also landed over takings, amounting to £7 4/8. It was decided to erect a shelter for the caretaker at the swimming baths. The question of holding a school picnic early in February was fully discussed, as the Railway Department were offering special facilities at reduced fares to schools. The matter of deciding upon the place—either Waipawa or Waipukvrau, was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary and Mr Driller, a special meeting to be called to complete arrangements. Accounts amounting to £l7 11/2 were passed for payment. Several members expressed their appreciation of Mr. Driller’s services in connection with the school, and a vote of thanks was accorded to him.

Ihe total takings on Parents’ Day amounted to £3O, which constituted a record for the school. The chairman remarked that special thanks were due to Messrs. A. Christie, E. J. Harvey, W. K. Wellwood, and Mrs. Hayward for donations to the school funds. He expressed appreciation of the splendid services of the Ladies’ Committee, who were always to be relied upon in helping to make the school functions a suc-

cess. He also took the opportunity of expressing the committee’s sincere thanks to the chairman and members of the Education Board, the Press, the headmaster and his staff, and to those parents who had so willingly assisted throughout the year. H« wished them one and all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous Nev Year.
