SWIMMING RECORDS
Two N.Z. Times Equalled AUSTRALIAN LADIES’ VISIT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. Two New Zealand records were equalled at a swimming carnival at Lower Hutt last night. In the 50 yards women’s handicap Miss F. Bult (Australian champion) covered the distance in 29 seconds, and in the 50 yards Wellington centre championship W. Cameron (Lyall Bay) equalled the New Zealand record of 24 2-ssecs. The Australians return to Sydney by the Wanganella to-morrow. Interviewed, Mrs. M. Chambers, chaperon, said she hoped that in the near future there would bo a regular exchange of visits between the champions of Australia and the Dominion. She advocated the formation of a women’s swimming association as the best means of improving the standard of swimming among young women. She said she was satisfied that three Auckland girls, Misses Leydon, Lerwin and Rainey, were worthy of being sent to next year’s British games.
