Counsel’s opening address in the Nelson case was concluded at 10 a.m. Inspector Braisby, the first witness for the prosecution, outlined the history of the Mau from 1926, including the principal events that followed, to 1930, when the Mau was declared a seditious organisation. He referred to the creation of disurbed areas, the naval visit to assist the civil police, and the subsequent quiet period during 1931 and 1932. Witness mentioned the receptions that followed the return of Nelson on May 16 and the renewed activity of the Mau, including unlawful taalolos on September 13 and 27, the concentration of the Mau and secret organising of a now Mau Government at Vaimoso, also the organisation o.f Mau malagas around Upolu. and Savaii to develop Mau activities.

Witness detailed the police search of Tuaefu and the seizure of papers and documents, of which there were approximately 120. Examinations of the documents were followed, by the arrest of Nelson. Documents relating to Nelson and Mau activities were read in Court.

The evidence had not been concluded when the Court adjourned at 4 p.m.
