HAUMOANA BEACH GALA

Boxing Day Fun Everything is now in order for the running of the programme on Boxing Day at Haumoana. Besides the races for speed-boats, row-boats, canoes, launches and yachts, there will be a number of events for swimmers, men, women and children, a 50 yards handicap for men, 50 yards handicap for women; races for boys and girls (primary schools) and novelty races such as Ihread-the-needle, sandwich race, diving (biggest splash), blindfold race, tub race, obstacle race, and a water treading competition. The recently-built jetty will prove a boon to those wishing to board the launches, speed-boats or rowing-boats. An afternoon tea stall will provide for those who have forgotten to take lunch with them, and ice cream, fruit and soft drinks will be obtainable. The produce stall should do good business if the fishermen return empty-handed, and chocolates will be easy to win at the games that are to be played. With the 'bus fares down to 1/6 for adults and 1/- for children for the return journey, a record crowd is sure to avail themselves of the opportunity of having at least one good day at the seaside. The Life-saving Club will be on duty with their reel to provide assistance for any swimmers that may get into difficulties, An area is being fenced off for the holding of the gala, and permission is being sought to make a charge of sixpence for adults and threepence for children to enter the enclosure. I Dancers will be well catered for at night, as Phil Walden’s orchestra has been engaged to play for the Grand Flannel Dance in tho Hall. The prices will be 2/-, 2/6, 4/- double, and this should prove a fitting wind up to a wonderful day.
