AUCKLAND GETS RAIN

Benefit to the Co ntry ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. Hard north-easterly squalls with heavy raiu were experienced in Auckland last night and early this morning. The total rainfall up to 9 o’clock today was .98 inches. It is the first substantial fall there has been this month and, as it appears to have been fairly general in the province, will be beneficial. Some light rain fell this morning, but the barometer towards midday appeared steadier and there was some hope that, having got a much needed downpour of rain, Auckland will have fair weather for Christmas.
