Morse, has sent the following letter of gifetings from himself and the people of Napier in reply to Mr. Maddison’s letter yesterday:— “Dear Mr. Maddison, —The congratulatory remarks expressed to me in your letter of the 19th instant are deeply appreciated, and on behalf of the councillors and citizens of Napier I sincerely thank you. “The task set the citizens of Hastings was in no less a degree equal to that devolved upon our citizens, and 1 in turn must record my admiration for the manner in which you and your councillors, with the assistance of the citizens, have achieved the results obtained in the short period that has elapsed since the earthquake. “The interests of our two towns are so interwoven that the feeling of mutual admiration and good fellowship must be engendered and it is with much pleasure that 1 have read your sentiments of goodwill and expressions of ernfiilence in the future. “Th's season of the year is an occasion for looking hack and looking forward, and as the events of 1933 pass through our minds and we review work accomplished and undertaken, we feel a certain amount of pride and it is this pride of achievement that confidently urges us on to the tasks ahead. “Wo desire to convey to your our reciprocation of the wishes so well expressed in vour letter and would ask you to bo good enough to accept them on behalf of the counwf’ors tnd citizens of Hastings "
