UNPRECEDENTED SCENES AT THE WEDDING OF THE LORD MAYOR OF MELBOURNE A section of the large crowd which assembled to see the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Mr. Harold Gengoult Smith, and his bride leaving St. Paul's Cathedral after their marriage. There were over 1000 guests and the arrangements were the most elaborate of any wedding ever held in Australia. The bride was formerly Miss Cynthia Brookes, daughter of Mr. Norman Brookes, the one-time tennis star.
