WAIPUKURAU

THE TOWN AND DISTRICT SHEARER’S GOOD TALLY A Dalmatian, Mr Jack Stanich, put up a good performance with the shearing machines at Waiwhero Station, Waipukurau, early this week, when he shore a total of 355 lambs in nine hours. The average shearer’s tally for the same number of hours is in the vicinity of 180 to 200, so that Mr Stanich’s effort is a creditable achieve ment. His time and tally were checked and double-checked and found to be perfectly correct. Railway Returns The returns of business handled at the Waipukurau railway station for the four weeks ended December 9 are as follow, the figures for the same month last year being shown in parentheses: Outwards: Passengers, 1006 (680); cattle 466 (285); sheep, 38,228 (22,248); timber, 27,950 feet (—); goods, 941 tons (934 tons); revenue, £2170 (£1861).
