SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. VARIOUS MATTERS DISCUSSED. From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa School Committee was held on Thursday evening, when there were present Messrs. Yates (chairman), Strang (secretary), Fox, Gallagher and Mesdames Bibby, Mason and Adeane. The chairman and secretary were appointed a sub-committee lo go into the question of tho repair of the school grounds with the member for the Middle Ward. The headmaster reported the attendance as follows: —Primary, average 174, roll 187; secondary, average 57, roll 65. The attendance had been considerably affected by the influenza epidemic. Mrs. Mason and Messrs. Strang and Gallagher were appointed a sub-com-niitfcpo to go into the question of erecting “a volley board in tho school grounds. Owing to the proficiency examination being held on November 30, it was resolved that pupils not engaged in the examination be free for the rest of the day. It was tentatively arranged that the prize-giving and breaking-up function take tho same form as lajit year and be held on Wednesday, December 20. If possible, a school concert is to be arranged for December 15. It was resolved that tho allocation of prize money bo the same as last year. Messrs. Fox and Fissenden were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. OCTOBER RAINFALL. October would have bon a comparatively dry month but for two good soakings in the latter stages, but even then the total was below the average. The records are as under: — Waipawa (Mr. W. 11. Rathbone). — Rain fell on nine days ns follows: Ist, .18; Bth, .05; 9th, .02; 15th, .02; 20th, .26; 21st, .01; 22nd, .89; 23rd, .01; 29th, .77; total, 2.21 in.; total for 1933, 26.53 in. Blackburn (Mr. E. S. Bibby).—Rain fell on nine davs as follow-: Ist, .60; Bth, .03; 9th, .18; 15th, .10; 16th, .03; 20th, .24; 21st. .01; 22nd, .39: 29th. 1.15; total. 2.73in5.; average October rainfall, 3.69in5; total for 1933, 33.46 ins. “Te Manuiri” (Mr. T. Mawson).— Rain fell on 12 days as follow: Ist, .11; Sth, .03; 9th, .08;' 15th, .03; 16th. .03; 18th, .04; 20th, .34; 21st, .08; 22nd. .46; 23rd, .04; 29th, .83; 30th, .06; total. 2.l3ins. PERSONAL. The Rev. F. W. Robertsen is at pres ent confined to his home with an attack of influenza. Mrs. C. Woods has returned to Waipawa from a visit to Masterton.
