TITLE BOXING AT HASTINGS
OXLEY v. HUGHES. N.Z. LIGHTWEIGHT BELT AT STAKE. The Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association is to be congratulated on its efforts in matching these two top-notch boxers, Ted Oxley and Archie Hughes, for the lightweight championship of New Zealand and the “Truth” Belt. Boxing enthusiasts are assured of a ding dong nnd scientific exhibition of the sport, both boys being at the top of the tree and with plenty of experience behind them. Oxley has already shown Hawke's Bay enthusiasts what he can do, and has proved himself a fast and energetic worker with both hands. lie is a real crowd-pleaser. Hughes has an excellent record sines leaving Australia, having beaten ths late H. Johns for the title, and shortly after withstood a challenge by Oxley, later, when again challenged by Oxley, to lose his title after one of the best fights ever witnessed in New Zealand. In addition to the above attraction there will be four four-round amateur bouts of first-class order, as the following names prove: Les Dnberg v. O. Stock; L. Robertson v. M. Blake; S. Cavanagh v. C. Rush; and one other to be arranged. The date of this genuine professional title contest and exhibition of amateur talent is November 20, and the prices of admission * T * advertised elsewhere in this issue. Patrons will be well advised to take advantage of the free booking. The box plan is now open at J. Donovan s tobacconist shop.
