A conference of delegates to discuss the question of amalgamation of local bodies will be held in the Hawke’s Bay County Council Chambers, Napier, <m Monday, at 11 a.m. Gifts of a stretcher and single, double and cot mattresses are invited by the Hastings Red Cross on behalf Of distressed families, and anyone able to help is asked to ring telephone 3606. The society has a drop side cot which it is prepared to offer in exchange for a stretcher. An exceptionally busy time is being experienced by the helpers at the Kindergarten “shop” in the premises loaned by Mr J. Hennah, opposite the Villa d’Este, in Heretaunga street, Hustings. Though an early start was inuda with the arranging of the stalls, so generous was the response for produce, etc., that the helpers found it impossible to complete the display before there was a continuous stream of patrons. Throughout the morning and the early afternoon there was a big crowd in the shop. There are five stalls —flowers, hooks and odds and ends, cakes, produce and sweets—run by members of the Hastings Free Kindergarten Association’s council, and a special stall of Christmas gifts and novelties arranged bv the Mothers’ Club. Miss Helen Ford, who is in charge, expressed herself as well satisfied with the patronage accorded the shop and was very grntefu] for the quantity of articles and produce so generously donated.
