HASTINGS WOMEN’S LEAGUE

MONTHLY MEETING. AFFILIATION WITH WOMEN’S PEACE LEAGUE. The usual business meeting of the i Hastings Women’s League was held in tho Trades Hall on Wednesday. In the absence of the president, Mrs McMahon, Mrs Bcllerby occupied the chair. Apologies for absence were received from Mcsdames McMahon, Martin and Macdonald. The meeting stood in silence to commemorate the deaths of Mr Holland and Miss Mary McCarthy, two of New Zealand’s most earnest Socialists. The secretary of the N.Z. section of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom wrote: “I am glad your League will affiliate with us. We have recently received the annual report of the British section of the W.I.L.P.F. lu it wo notice that they have several affiliated societies in Great Britain, that is societies that arc working for the same objects. I brought it before tho meeting and tho members decided it would be wise to follow the same lines hero. The affiliation fee is 5/- per year. “Such an affiliated organisation shall be entitled to send two ve'' — delegates to general meetings of the branch, such delegates to have the same power as members of tho branch.” After a lengthy discussion tho Hastings League decided to affiliate with tho W.1.L.P.F., sending the

5/- fee for that purpose, and at tha same time seuding £1 towards N.Z. section’s affiliation fees to Geneva, this action not to be taken as a precedent. Mrs McMahon was unanimously chosen as the League’s representative on the Unemployed Women and Girls’ Committee in answer to the invitation received from the Mayoress. The following brief reports were read: Happy afternoons still prove plenty of fun for women and children. The executive of tho Mayor's Relief Fund has donated £5, to be used in any way the committee decides towards the happiness and well-being of those attending. Mcsdames Ward and Kale were appointed sick visitors for the ensuing month. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mcsdames Spear and Kale for their work during the past month. The secretary was instructed to advertise the annual meeting, which will be held on December 6.
