CROQUET SEASON OPENED RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS The Havelock North Croquet Club’s 1933-34 season was formally opened bv the president <Mr s E. F. Leicester) o’> Saturday afternoon. The president wo! corned visitors from Hastings, Kin Toa, Ueretaunga, Wairere, Pon Ahu nn and Omaruuui. After Mr Leicester had followed the precedent of playing the first ball, the afternoon was spent in competitions which were won as follow: — One ball break: Mrs Sinclair two-ball break: Mrs Gadd Angles: Miss Carrington Golf croquet: Mrs Pope. TENNIS CLUB MEETING. Tbe annual meeting of the Havelock North Tennis Club was held in the Town Board office, Mr P. F. Hunlei presiding over a good attendance Ihe annual report and balance-sheet show ed the club’s affairs to be in a vc y satisfactory state. The chairman congratulated the members on their untiring efforts to free the club from debt, and tie accomplishment of this object reflected great credit on the members. The committee reported that bad places on the courts had been ro tuned, aud the wire netting icoies had beeu repaired and in some places entirely renewed. The pavilion shoull be completed m time for the opening day and should prove a great a.->sc‘ to the club. All the work had been ear ned out by working bees, which showed tbe keenness of the members. i'Le committee expressed its appreciat or of the assistance of members of the Bowling Club tn the erection of ths pavilion. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr P. F. Hunter; vice-presidents, all re-elected, 12 tn number; secretary, Mr H. Eddie; treasurer. Mr T. Blair; auditor, Mr Angus; committee, Misses E. Ireneman, R. Joll and Mrs Cornwall, and Messrs Jones. Marshall, Robertson and McLeod. It was decided to place on record the club’s appreciation of the past services of the retiring secretary (Mr A. Webb) and the treasurer (Mr R. Liley). Miss E. Treneman, who had had" charge of the tea arrangements during last seasoa, was also accorded a vote of thanks It was decided to officially open the aitib’s season on Saturday next. October 21
