UNITED A’S GOOD START. On McLean Park United A made a good start against St. John's by scoring 235. G. Nelson made the highest score (61), while Seed made 42, N. Bickerstaff 42, J. Nelson 26, C. Bickerstaff 17 Robinson 13 and Laurie and Seaman 10 each, the lattei being not out. Bowling for St. John’s King took four wickets for 13. Campbell three for 48, S. Triggs one for 47 and Marshall one for 54. play was given by Potter, whose eight wickets at a cost of only eight runs. Krough took two for 11, Macfarlane one for 19 and Swailes one for 12. At the call of time Swailes’ had scored 218 at a cost of nine wickets. Jeffrey gave the best display by making 77 (seven boundaries). Others to score double figures were A. Swailes (12), Hildebrandt (14), Krough (16), Mae farlane (28), E. Swailes (21) and Prentice (14 not out). Details of Scinde’s bowling will be published at the completion of the innings. H. 5.0.8. COLLAPSE. 11.5.0.8. collapsed in their first innings against High School. School baL ter first and made 254, a fine display being given by Lee, who made 90, including one six and 13 boundaries. Turner made 35, Johnson 23, F. Smith 34, Phillips 24 and Carey 23. Bowling for Old Boys, IV. Mackinnon took two wickets for 33, Cutcliffe three for 39, Harlow two for 42 and Orr three for >6. In their replying strike Old Boys were dismissed for 35, no-one scoring double figures. For School, Hickey took two wickets for 13, Adams two for seven, Smith two for seven and Johnson four for six. TECHNICAL 0.8. v. TARADALE. Technical 0.8. had first use of the wickets in their match against Taradale and made 128. Double figure scores were gained by Tate (31 not out), Grouden (24), Hawke (21) and Thompson 16. Wilson’s medium paced deliveries wrought much havoc and he took seven wickets for 39 runs in 12 overs. Cooper took one for 27 and Stanford one for 35. Taradale replied With 139, thereby gaining a first innings lead. Boggs made 18, Cooper 28, Stanford 31. Collingc 16 and Blundsen 24 (not out). Bowling for Technical, Grouden took two wickets for 23, Brimer five for 38 (nine overs) and Crozier two foi; 13. At stumps Technical had lost two wickets for one run in their second innings. UNITED B’S LEAD. United B have gained a small first innings lead over Technical Colts. The Colts had first knock and made 120 (Dowrick 36, Vercoe 23, Elliott 17, Kronk 14 and Falvey 13 not out). For United, Hawthorne’s medium to fast good length deliveries took a heavy
toll and he captured six wickets in his 15 overs at a cost of 55 runs. Champion took one for 41, Broad one ofr 17 and Wylie one for 10. United B made 133, Champion giving the best display by scoring 46 (not out). Others to score double figures were Hawthorne (36) and Stephenson (11). The Colts’ bowling honours were shared by Kronk (.five for 36 in 16 overs), Brown (one for 22), Vercoe (three for 30), Hargreaves (one for none).
