Although she said she entered the Englishwomen’s golf championship, played at Westward Ho, in order to prove that golfers used too many chibs, and that the game can be played solely with a cleek, Miss Gloria Minoprio attracted more critical attention from players and spectators on account of her clothes. Miss Minoprio made an unprecedentedly dramatic entry when the starter called her name. What appeared to be a young man stepped from a sports car, dressed in black pointed shoes, sill,-' socks, fig-top turned-up trousers with a knife-edge crease, a knitted iersev fitting close at tho throat and a knitted cap. A red suede golf coat was handed to the caddie, who carried only a clock. Miss Minoprio used this club only. She was frequently hunkered, with the result that she was beaten, 5 and 3, by Miss Nnncv Halsted, who was dressed soberlv in brown. Miss Minoprio appeared during the practice rounds in a skirt. Her masculine costume to-dnv shocked the members of the executive. Miss Lloyd-Williams, condemning this departure from traditional attire, called n. special meeting to discuw plajers’ clothes
