CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCHES
DOCTRINE OF ATONEMENT was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon tn all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, 15th October. The Golden Text was from 11 Cor. 5:18, “All things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.” Among the citations which comprised the Lesson-Sermon were the following from the Bible: “For he is our peace who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; having abolished in his flesh the enmity ... for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; and that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby.” (Eph. 2.14-16). Also the following passages from tho Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Marv Baker Eddy: “The atonement of Christ reconciles man to God, not God to man ; for the divine Principle of Christ is God, and how can God propitiate Himself? It was therefore Christ's purpose to reconcile man to God, not God to man. Even Christ cannot reconcile Truth to error, for Truth and error are irreconcilable.’ 1 (pp. 18, 19L
