AT THE RACES

PERSONALITIES AND FROCKS. THE HUNT CLUB MEETING. The sun shone brightly and springgreen willows beautified the Hastings race course for the postponed Hunt Club race meeting on Saturday, and the people who sat in the stands or strolled round to see the horses obviously enjoyed their day. Between the races the Hastings Citizens’ Band played lively selections, which added to the interest of the occasion, and many folk had lunch or tea in their ears, making up little parties with friends. The events were well worth watching and the winners were enthusiastically clapped. Among those seen were the Master (Mr G. D. Beatson) and Mrs Beatson, the latter wearing a-dark blue tailored coat and skirt with gay scarf matching a lime-yellow hat. Mr Harold Russell (president) and the Misses Russell were present, Miss Russell wearing a very smart suit of dove-grey basket-weave crepe, with a small black hat and vivid scarf of scarlet, green, and white stripes. Miss S. Russell was in a black suit with white gardenia on the collar, black and white searf and hat. Mrs Oswald Nelson, a henna tailored coat and skirt and hat to tone, with beige blouse; Mrs Giblin, grey tweed ensemble with deep blue and grey striped trimming; Mrs Blundell, green, black and oyster strikingly checked ensemble with a black hat and searf; Mrs A. P. White, smartly tailored rust toned coat and skirt and a hat of the same shade; Miss Elworthy (Timaru), brown and grey tweed coat and skirt with a brown felt hat; Mrs E. Newbigin, brown coat and skirt with brown furs and a brown panne velvet hat; Mrs D. Lane, rust-red model suit and a verysmall hat of the same shade; Mrs Tod, becoming tailored ensemble of daffodil yellow- woollen crepe with a brown scarf; Mrs F.
