HASTINGS ORPHANS’ CLUB
“LADIES' NIGHT” HELD.
SPLENDID rtjf’RTAINMENT PROVIDED.
Last evening the Oddfellows’ Hall was crowded for the hist “Ladies’ Night” of the season of the Hastings Orphans’ Club, the attendance of members and their womenfolk exceeding all anticipations. A programme of undoubted merit was presented and afforded great enjoyment. Th® function was opened by Chief Orphan G. A. Maddison. who extended a cordial welcome to the ladies and expressed the club's pleasure at having them at the korero. The orchestra, under the baton of Conductor Chas. Bryant, as usual contributed largely to the enjoyment of those present. They played the overture, “Light Cavalry,” and later “Gems from Maritana,” “One Sweet Word” and the stirring march “Vini, Vidi, Vici.” Three delightful sketches were presented, the first being “‘Loose.’’ by Orphans L. Fail, H. Poppelwi 11 and E. E. Rivers; the second “Green Chaireuse, ’’ by Orphans D. F. Sturm. E E. Rivers and H. G. Davies; and the third "The Detector,” by Orphans L. Fail, H. Poppelwell and E. E. Rivers. . . Other contributions to tin- evening s enjoyment were vocal solos bv Orphans F. B. Thomas and E. G. Stevenson; instrumental solos by < Indians I. < Wilkinson (trumpet) and F. After supper the floor was cleared for dancing, the music being supplied bv Mr J. Red and his orchestra.
