PARTY ALIGNMENTS

LIBERAL AND LABOUR,

POSSIBILITIES DISCUSSED

(Received 19, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 18. The “Economist,” discussing the possibility of party alignments, expresses the opinion that co-operation is possible between Mr Lloyd George, Sir Herbert Samuel and Mr Herbert Morrison on the combination of economically suitable industries under public control with a view to diminishing profit-taking. “Consequently, it is regrettable that the Labourites have lately shown signs of being tainted by that sectional, narrow protectionism which has long disfigured the Labour policy in Australia. Nothing could be more short-sighted economically and politically.”
