HASTINGS R.S.A.

HELPING EX-SERVICEMEN. REUNION IN SEPTEMBER. The usual monthly meeting of the committee of the Hastings Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Friday evening, Col. H. Holderness presiding over Messrs. L. J. Mackersey, W. A. Mclntyre, C. Prebble, T. H. Goldfinch, T. E. O’Dowd, D. T. McCormick, R. E. Hunt, G. 11. Roach and V. A. Thomson (secretary). Mr. H. T. Wairoa, representing Maori exsoldiers, was also present. An apology was received from Mr. P. J. 8. George. Headquarters wrote asking for particulars of assistance granted to exImperial soldiers during the last year. The secretary reported that he had advised the general secretary that £24 6/6 had been so expended. Headquarters further requested that particulars of the organisation of Poppy Day sales be forwarded, so that a comprehensive scheme might be formulated: also that the minimum price of poppies be fixed at 1/-. It being understood that the Pensions Department having declined to bear any part of the cost of funeral expenses of ex-imperial servicemen, even when death is the result of war disabilities, the secretary was instructed to bring this matter before headquarters with a view to having the matter rectified. It was decided to hold the usual quarterly re union in September. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the ehair.
