VICTORIA COLLEGE STAFF

INVESTIGATION INTO CHARGES. WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. A committee set up by ths Council of Victoria University College “to investigate certain charges or insinuations made in recent correspondence in the Wellington press against the staff of the college’’ held a sitting to-day and adjourned until Tuesday evening next. The committee is treating any evidence that may be brought before it as confidential, save as to the chairman of the professorial board and any person affeeted. It is understood that Canon James and Mr D. McLaren have sent written statements to the committee, and Mr A. P. Harper, representing the Welfare League, intimated to-day that he intended to appear personally before the committee. Tho committee will report in due course to tho college council.
