The King and Queen left Buckingham Palace yesterday by road for Windsor Castle, where the Court will remain for about a fortnight. The King will return to London on Monday to open the World Economic Conference. Princess Elizabeth, with her parents, the Duke and Duchess of York, yesterday attended a full-dress rehearsal of the Aidershot Military Tattoo, at which 60,000 children in school parties were present.

Members of the Taradale Town Board last evening passed a resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. A. W. Horne, who died at the Napier Hospital yesterday.

The many friends of Mrs G. D. McAlly, who is in the Napier Hospital suffering from diphtheria, will be glad to hear that she is on the road to recovery.

On the motion of Cr. A. F. Redgrave, seconded by Cr. 8. Ashcroft, the Hastings Borough Council last evening elected Cr. A. 1. Rainbow as DeputyMayor.

The members of the Sherenden Women’s Institute, at their meeting on Tuesday, carried a vote of sympathy and condolence with Mrs Ibbotson and family in their recent very sad bereavement.

Mr J. E. Latham, of Wallingford, who has been a patient at the Waipukurau Hospital suffering from concussion sustained as the result of • recent serious accident, has now recovered sufficiently to return to his home.

The engagement is announced of Margot, youngest daughter of Mr G. Thorne-George, of Napier, ifnd Mre Thorne-George, of Auckland, to Sydney George Peterkin, eldest son of th* late Mr E. G. Peterkin and Mrs R. C. Johnston, of Napier.

The death of Mr William Martin, of East Tamaki, on June 2, has been followed only three days later by the death of his elder brother, Mr Walter Martin, of Wiri. Mr W. E. Martin was 82 years of age, and Mr Walter Martin was in his 85th year.
