WEEK-END GOLF. GRIFFITH CUP MATCH. From Our Own Correspondent. The first round for the Griffith Cup was played on the Takapau golf links on Saturday afternoon, and although a good many players went out comparatively few cards were returned as under:— A Fraser, 1 down. Major McDonnell, 2 down E. Chadwick, 2 down. S. Ropata, 5 down. J. P. O’Dowd, 5 down. J. Caughley 7 down C. C. Callender, 7 down. 11. Elliott, 8 down. A. Bayliss, 8 down. Commander A’Deane-Tollemache, b down. W. Davies, 9 down. In a club match the Rev. Fathei Devlin played the fifth hole (“Styx,” 153 yards) in one. It is understood that in spite of the times, the penalty for this break will not be altered. PERSONAL NOTES. Mrs Giles, of Dunedin, who has been staying for some time with Mr and Mrs W. Hobson, “To Matai,” Takapau, has returned to the South Island. Mr and Mrs G. 11. Smith, of Wellington, are staying on a holiday with their relatives, Mr and Mrs W. Craig, of Takapau. j A reminder is given of the dental clinic ball, which is to be held in the Takapau Public Hall to-morrow evening. Miss Betty Cooper’s orchestra supplies the music, and an enjoyable dancing evening is guaranteed.
