RIFLE SHOOTING
OKAWA CLUB. RESULTS OF TROPHY MATCHES. Members of the Okawa Rifle Club completed two trophy matches on Roy’s Hill over the week-end. They were No. 7 Trophy with 10 shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards' and No. 6 Trophy with 10 shots at 800 and 900 yards. The riflemen had a very difficult task attempting to master the tremendous changes and though the standard of marksmanship was, in some instances, exceptionally high, this was not duo to “patches” of settled conditions. On the 300 yards range, despite a strong right wind, two splendid scores of 48 were registered by Rflin. Sim and Carmichael. At 500 yards Pres. White, Rflm. Burton and Grace were the most successful scorers with
48, 48, and 47 respectively. At 600 yards the strongest wind yet experienced on Roy’s Hill had to be contended with. At times it reached gale force and it was not uncommon for a marksman, despite his 24 degrees wind deflection, to miss the target. Rflm. Rosenberg put up a magnificent performance in scoring a brilliant 47 (5 4 5545555 4—47). Under such frightful conditions this performance is indeed praiseworthy, for at one ft ago of the 600 yards practice the targets were completely obliterated by a sand storm. After a cessation of Activities for some time shooting was continued under more pleasant conditions with the result that many good cards were returned. Two “possibles” were registered by Rflm. Sim and Burton on the final range for the day.
No. 6 ,Tropli; resulted in a win for Rflm. Burton with a score of 99 out of the possible 100, while Rflm. Rosenberg headed the list for No. 7 Trophy, reaching the standard of 138. Following are the scores in detail:— No. 7 TROPHY.
No. 6 TROPHY’.
