WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

RUAKITURI BRANCH. At the monthly meeting of the Ruakituri Women’s Institute the junior vice-president presided over a good attendance. It was decided to arrange for a dance in Waikatea woolshed in May. It is to be a “hardship” function. Miss McCormick gave a very interesting demonstration of painting tinfoil pictures, and passe partout framing. The date being too early there were not many entries for the best chrysanthemum bloom. The winners in the competition, “something made from used materials,” was Mrs Burden 1, Miss A. Bruce being second and Miss Robson third. SHERENDEN MEETING. The general meeting of the Sherenden Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday and proved to be a very enthusiastic gathering. Mrs Riggar and Mrs Horne, president and secretary respectively of the Northern Hawke’s Bay Federation, were present and an address by Mrs Riggar on the aims and idea’s of the Women’s Institute was greatly enjoyed. The following committee were then elected for the ensuing year Mrs Xoel Beamish, president; Mrs Whyte, secretary; Miss B. Ibbotson, treasurer; Mesdames Olliver, McAulay, P. Mason, T. Dysart, Misses B. Sheild, N. Attwood, AL Doole, committee. A dainty afternoon tea was served and Mrs Riggar and Mrs Horne were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their attendance at the meeting. A very happy afternoon concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
