ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
Georg* John Christopher Bank, aged 51, died in the Christchurch Hospital last night from injuries received in the afternoon while on relict' work on the Summit road. Bank, it is stated, fell heavily, striking his chin on the rocky ground and was rendered unconscious. An engine from the Wellington Central Eire Station, while going along Featherston street 1 ast night in answer to a call from a street box, tried to avoid collision with a motor car which suddenly turned in front of it, and in doing so the ladder of the engine struck J. McSperrin in the stomach. McSperrin, who is a waterside worker was believed to have been standing on the pavement when struck. He was taken to the public hospital suffering from internal haemorrhage. Concussion and severe head injuries were suffered by a Wellington man, Mr Edward Kennedy, when he slipped and fell down a flight of stairs yesterday. Mr Kennedy, who is secretary to the Cooks’ and Stewards’ Union of New Zealand, was unconscious when he was taken to hospital. His condition was described as 'fairly serious last night. Mr Kennedy is married and lives at Island Bay. He went to Auckland to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party and ho was present at the discussions yesterday. The body of Cecil Henry Alpin, aged 29, was found on his parents' farm at Khandallah, Wellington. There was a gunshot wound in the forehead and a gun alongside the body.
