FIRE ON STEAMER
BENHOLM SENDS OUT APPEAL. CRUISER LEANDER TO THE RESCUE. (Received 19, 1.45 p.m.) GIBRALTAR, April 18. In response to a wireless appeal from the copra-laden steamer Benholm, bound from Suva and afire in the afterhold and shelter deck, the cruiser Leander transferred aboard a smoke-helmeted party and escorted the vessel to Calaburra, where it is being salvaged.
