NEW ARCADIA THEATRE
PLANS PREPARED. ACCOMMODATION FOR OVER 800 PEOPLE. The plans for the proposed rebuilding of the Arcadia Theatre have been deposited by Mr. G. M. Spencer at the Hastings Borough Council Chambers for approval by the council at its next meeting. It is proposed to rebuild on the present site, which allows for a building having a frontage of 66ft. and a depth of 168 ft. Messrs. E. Anscombo and associates, the architects, have made provision for the accommodation of 836 people, the stalls seating 498 and the circle, which will be on the ground floor, though raised above the stalls, will accommodate another 338 people. A sixteen-foot stage is to be constructed, with dressing rooms on either side, whilst in the front of the building there will be two shops, each 23ft. 6in. by 31ft. 7in., with a foyer 16ft. wide leading to a spacious lounge. In the event of the work being gone on with, Hastings will then have four picture houses.
