NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO MORROW The first batch of nominations for the forthcoming Hastings municipal elections was received by the town clerk (Mr. P. R. Pur•er) this morning, when nomina- i tions were received for the Borough Council, Hawke’s Bay Power Board. Napier Harbour Board, and Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board. Nominations close at noon to-morrow, •nd the elections will take place on May 3 next. The nominations to hand this morning are as follows: — HASTINGS BOROUGH COUNCIL | (Nine required.) Nominations in connection with the forthcoming municipal and local body elections at Napier closed at noon today, and in the case of the Borough Council and vacancies for the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board and Napier Harbour Board there will be big fields. For the eleven seats on the council 20 •ominations have been received, four of which are from retiring councillors. For the three vacancies on the Hospital Board seven nominations have been received, the three retiring members seeking re-election. Among the new aspirants to this body is Dr. James Allan Berry, who for a number of years was medical superintendent at the Napier Hospital. Seven nominations have 'been received for the three vacancies on the Napier Harbour Board. It will be noted that one of the retiring members, Mr. J. C. Bryant, after eight years’ service on the board is not seeking re-election. Fbr the Mayoralty the retiring Mayor is being opposed by Mr. C. 0. Morse, who for a number of years has been chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board and following the disaster of February. 1931, was chairman of the Napier Earthquake Committee. Five candidates have been nominated for the City Mayoralty, viz.: R. S. Black (present Mayor), F. W. Mitchell (Deputy Mayor), Rev. E. T. Cox, C. M. Moss, ami M. O’Rorke (Communist). Twenty-six candidates, including full Citizens’ and Labour tickets, are standing for twelve seats on the City Council. The Labour Party is not contesting the Mayoralty. AUCKLAND MAYORALTY. Mr G. W. Hutchinson, the sitting Mayor, and Mr H. G. R. Mason. M.P.. have been nominated for the City Mayoralty. There are 43 candidates for the 21 seats on the City Council.
