SOUTH AUCKLAND BEATEN TEN-WICKET DEFEAT LAST-WICKET STAND The representative cricket fixture between Hawke’s Bay and South Auckland was concluded at Nelson Park, Napier, yesterday afternoon, resulting in a substantial victory for Hawke’s Bay by ten wickets and one run. Messrs W. L. Dunn and J. J. O’Brien acted as umpires. WIN AGAINST WESTSHOKE The Hastings Picnic Club played Westshore at Cornwall Park yesterday, winning by seven wickets and 24 runs, after being 20 runs behind on the first inings. The Picnic Club have played four games against Westshore and has won three and drawn one. DEFEAT OF FLAXMERE The Hastings Picnic Club played Flaxmere at cricket on Cornwall Park on Saturday. Flaxmere batted first and made 103 (Cameron 10, Johnson 12, Pearson 33, Monty Graham 21). Bowling for the Picnic Club, Goodall took two for 46, Christison two for 22, H. Love four for 22, Scott two for 13. Hastings Picnic Club in their first innings made 251 for five (declared). H. Love made 67, E. Goodall 18, Mitchell 122 (four sixes and 20 fours) and Scott 19. Bowling for Flaxmere, Booth took one for 42, Axby three for 96 and Arthur, one for 39. Flaxmere in their second innings made 154 (Pearson 11, Arthur 26, Monty Graham 52, Booth 22). Bowling for the Picnic Club, Goodall took one for 12, H. Love three for 25, Clark three for 36 and W. Love three for 13. Hastings Picnic Club won by ten wiekets. MATCH AGAINST ESK VICTORY FOR NAPIEK In a friendly one-day match played at Nelson Park, Napier, on Saturday, a Napier senior eleven defeated a team representing the Esk sub-association on the first innings by 78 runs. Napier, batting first, made 248, two outstanding displays being given by Palmer and Burns, who made 50 and 54 respectively. In their replying innings Esk made 170. A fine display of sound batting was given by Ruddenclau, who made 63 (seven fours). Holt made 14 and Brenton Rulo 12. Napier’s successful bowlers were Nairn, two for 37, Hunter five for 37 aud J. O’Brien three for 11. JUNIOR FIXTURE HEPS. AGAINST “THE REST” A junior match was also played at Nelson Park, Napier, between the Hawke’s Bay junior representatives and “The Rest.” The representatives batted first and made 265. Frater, hitting out in his usual forceful style, scored 124 in record time, hitting one five and 24 fours. Jeffery made 23, Younghusband 33, Richards 11 and Mahony 29. For “The Rest,” Walker took one wicket for 27, Horsefield two for 26, Forsyth three for 26, Dowrick one for 39, Blackledge one for 36, Seed one for 35, Armitage one for one. At stumps “The Rest” had just commenced their first innings and had lost one wicket for no runs. PICKARD SHIELD MATCH. CENTRAL H.B. BEATS DANNEVIRKE. A cricket match for the Pickard Shield was played at Waippukurau on Saturday between Dannevirke and Central Hawke’s Bay in ideal cricket weather. The wicket was in fair condition. out the outfield was very bumpy. Central Hawke’s Bay won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 144 runs. Dannevirke’s first innings closed at 91. In Central Hawke’s Bay’s second inning 69 runs were on the board for the loss of six wickets, when the innings was closed. were drawn, victory thus going to Central Hawke’s Bay by 53 runs on the first innings. COUNTRY MATCH. SHERENDEN BEAT KAIWAKA. In a friendly cricket match played at Nelson Park, Napier, yesterday, Sherenden defeated Kaiwaka on the first innings by one run. Kaiwaka batted first and made 132 (Fletcher 52, Turnball 25, Grant 11 and Castor 10). Sherenden replied with 133, doublefigure scores being gained by W. Earle (37), Bigg (28), Boyd (24) and Bruce (10), HASTINGS TEAM IN WELLINGTON WELLINGTON, April 17. The cricket match between the Wellington junior eleven and the Hastings senior team for the Garret Cup resulted in an easy win for Wellington. When stumps were drawn at the end of the first day’s play on Saturday, Wellington had compiled a first innings score of 399, wnile Hastings had lost one wicket for six runs. Hastings continued to-day, being dismissed in the first innings for 165. Carr made 30, Hislop 52 and Fisher 37 not out. Following on, the visitors made 145, Carr contributing 23, Hislop 34 and Paterson 24. Wellington thus won by an innings and 80 runs
