SECEDES FROM AUSTRALASIA COUNCIL. CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. The annual session of the Grand Orange Lodge bf New Zealand came to a momentous decision. It was .resolved to secede from the Grand tlrange Council of Australasia. Members said they felt it time th. Grand Orange Lodge of this countr,. assumed powers of self-government. !• was also decided to make application for aflfliation with tho Imperial Grund Orange Council of the world. The Lodge carried a resolution de. clariug that members were bound to defend the Christian religion. Ibe resolution proceeded: “This gran, lodge of New Zealand, believing Ilia Communism is based on atheism an is opposed to all religion, and that ’ declared purpose is to destroy relig u declares that it is the duty of menib - to oppose Communism and that num bei'ship on any Communistic orgai"-.. tion is incompatible with the prim 1 of the Orange institution.” lhe Lodge also carried a resoluii associating itself with the protest- ■ the Protestant Churches against ' u day excursion trains, and also “again-: such Sabbath desecration as the flight carried out in New Zealand on tin Lord’s Day by Sir Charles KmgsloidSmith.”
