HAVELOCK SPORTS

MONDAY’S ATTRACTION Everything is now in readiness for the monster sports meeting to be held at Havelock North on Easter Monday. Record entries are expected in all events and, given good weather, the attendance also should surpass all previous meetings. As this is the final sports meeting of the season in Hawke’s Bay keen interest is being shown amongst competitors and some very fine finishes should be witnessed. Spectators will be well catered for, there being a refreshment booth installed where tea, sandwiches and cakes, also soft drinks, ice-cream, fruit and sweets may be obtained, while for picnic parties, hot water is provided free. The Hastings Citizens’ Band will render an excellent programme which should be much appreciated by lovers of music. The Hastings Athletic Club, whose officials are in charge of the athletic events, will also have their loud speaker installed to keep spectators well advised of all that is in progress and to provide additional music of selected gramaphono recordings. The dog trials are scheduled to start at 7 a.m., the horse events at 11 a.in., athletic events at 1 p.in. and children’s events at 10 a.m. Nimon’s buses will leave Hastings every half hour from 8.30 a.m., continuing the half-hourly service each way throughout the whole day. In the evening a grand sports club dance will be held in the Village Hall, Walden’s Orchestra providing the music. An excellent supper and a good floor is assured, and patrons may look forward to a most enjoyable evening.
