The grey gelding, Oil Painting, who has been galloping great guns of late, has gone lame and was not paid up for last nighf. A very, heavy fog was again experienced this morning, and in consequence training did not commence so early. Royal Shift was galloped three furlongs, but it was impossible to see the gelding until within a hundred yards of the winning post. Mercian Queen wenj, half a mile and she, too, was invisible until the last few yards. Both, as far as could be gathered, went well. In their six-furlong gallop on the plough Margaret Rose and Princess Bell took I.lB}, with the latter held back to her mate. Princess Bell’s recent track work has been attractive. Gold Ruler, on the plough (a track he is not partial to) ran seven furlongs in 1.33}. He was picked up over the last five furlongs by Dusky Crown, who led Mr Beatson’s gelding home by a length. Queen’s Diadem and Squeeze were paired for a five-furlong gallop, but the pace was not really on until the last three, which took '39secs., and the full distance in 64}secs. Squeeze went the .better of the two. High Grader was not out to break the watches this morning, being content to run three-quarters of a mile in 1.20}, on the plough. Royal Parade and Speed were associated in a once round gallop on the plough and as both are engaged in the Cup the gallop was full of interest. Speed was always going the better and finished ahead in 1.41. Cuticle, wearing a bandage, galloped half a mile, without being knocked about, in 52}secs. Sunstead and Monarchy ran a mile on the plough in 1-48, with the former finishing in front. Glenrossie and Slippery sprinted down the straight. Chocksay, Shrewd and White Fang finished in a line at the end of a round on the plough. The time. 1.43}, was only fair. Chocksay is not carrying near the condition she did when here last January. Shrewd and White Fang both finished strongly. Sabatini, alone, and with 9st. or over in the saddle, was given a similar task to run a second slower. He was not bustled. On the grass, Passion Fruit and Limbohm galloped half a mile to register 501 sees. Passion Fruit, who finished a nose in front, showed much improvement on hi 6 last truck gallop. Pukehou was not galloped at top. being sent half a mile at a working gallop pace in 55secs. Hybiscus ran five furlongs on the grass in a tick under 64secs., and did it comfortably, too. Bradman was slightly ahead of Granny Quex at the end of four furlongs on the plough, hut the mare was going the better of the pair at the finish; 521 secs. was fair time. Valsier pleased by the manner in which he went five furlongs with Master Frank and Hunting Mars. The three finishing together in (Hjsees. Hunting Mars, for a three-year-old that is not used to the plough track, went well, and he should add interest to the maiden race on Saturday. Jazz King was not going as well as Grand Sport at the end of five furlongs on the plough in 66secs. Wedding Bells, a recent arrival from the coast, was given trotting exercise. Kinsel, looking as fit as a fiddle, was also given slow work. Ho will be a starter in the hurdles, but for the second dav here may take on the handicap. Stitch was worked slow on the grass on account of sore heels. This good hack is back to the condition tie was when winning here last summer. Gainsfid, who arrived last evening in company with Kinsel and Stitch, looks a better horse than at Napier. Mr Alfred Symes has sent a cable to Mrs Symes stating that. La Mod erne is working well, at Sydney in preparation for the St. Leger.
