TAKAPAU

SHEEP DOC TRIAL CLUB * H NEW BODY FORMED Krom Our Own Correspondent. A very well-attended meeting of those interested in the formation of a sheep dog trial club was held on Monday night in the library, Takapau, when Mr W. Hobson was voted to the chair. The sub-committee, which was appointed at a previous meeting to see what courses were available, if sheep could be procured for trial and what financial help was offering, reported that Mr J. C. Campion, manager, Oruawharo Station, kindly placed the old course at their disposal and that he would do everything he could to help the project; he also promised young sheep if the club could not get wethers for trial. There were at least 60 members willing to join up should a club be formed. After some further discussion it was decided to form a Takapau Sheep Dog Trial Club, subject to the adjoining clubs approving. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year;—Patron, Mr C. H. St. Hill; president, Mr W. Hobson; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. C. Campion, W. Cuthbertson, W. J. Craig, N. M. Paulsen, C. Smith D. McLean, F. de Stacpoole, P. F. Wall, H. Hobson; secretary and treasurer, Mr V. Heyward; assistant-secretary, Mr H. M. Tilley; auditor, R. S. Askew. It was decided to hold the trial about the middle of June after the North Island championship, to avoid clashing with any other trials in Hawke’s Bay. It was agreed that an account be opened at the Bank of New Zealand and that the secretaries and president operate thereon. The programme was drawn up with the standard three classes, and the prizes in the two heading events will be £5, £3, and £1 10/-, and in the huntaway £4. £2 and £l. The entry fee for all events will be 7/6. Trophies are to be provided for maiden events. It was thought advisable to only apply to the association this season for a permit to see what support was offering for a sheep dog trial at Takapau. Mr. W. A. McFarlane, Waiteranui, Hastings, was appointed judge. Failing his services being secured Mr D. G. Grant, of Dannevirke, is to be asked. Messrs. W. Hobson, W. Cuthbertson, N. M. Tilley and V. Hoyward were appointed a sub-committee to arrange all the details and select stewards and submit to the next general meeting to be held on April 24. The membership fee was fixed at 5/-, and over 20 paid up at the meeting. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting. PERSONAL NOTES. Dr. Anderson and Nurse Cook conducted the medical inspection of the Takapau School on Monday and yesterday.
