SUNDAY NIGHT CONCERT

FIRST OF WINTER SERIES. BRILLIANT ARTISTS ASSISTING. The first of the winter series of Sunday concerts arranged to assist th* unemployed of Hastings is to be held on Easter Sunday, and the association’s honorary organiser, Mr. C. C. Adams, has been most fortunate in securing the assistance of some of the most prominent artists in New Zealand. To residents of Hawke's Bay who have visited the various towns from which these talented people hail possibly no introduction is needed, but to those of us who have not had the pleasure of listening to them a brief run over of the programme should prove interesting. Air. Les Henry and his re-organised orchestra should, as usual, prove more than popular. Mr. Athol Allan, of Gis borne, is a vocalist of high repute, and Aliss Joyce Witters, of the same town, has a very sweet voice. Mr. Robert Cheyne, by kind permission of Mr. Clement May, of Wellington, will contribute the monologue “The Difference,” and a humorous number entitled “Ethelred.” Air. Ron Knowles, late of Rotorua, promises something quite out of the ordinary with his banjo selections. Mrs. C. Gannaway, a very fine singer from Hawera, will render “The Dawn has a Song,” and other numbers. Miss Natalie Pollock comes from Wellington with a splendid recommendation. Miss Gracie Kerr, described in Wellington as New Zealand’s “Gracie Field,” performs at all the leading functions in that city and promises a rare treat. “Ma Curly Headed Baby,” and “Mighty Lak a Rose” are the chosen numbers of another outstanding visiting singer, Mrs. E. Astill. Aliss Hannah AVhelan writes to say that she will be only too pleased to assist, and she also is an artist of extraordinary ability. The accompaniments during the concert will be played by Air. W. Lord. The above is only a portion of the splendid programme arranged, and on Thursday the complete programme will be published. For the convenience of church people and others who cannot get along until after the concert commences, arrangements have made made with Mr. Denton Wyatt to reserve seats for a small donation. The unemployed will need plenty of support this winter, and it is hoped that a capacity house wiH greet the visiting artists.
